There’s a new family fun center in town that promises to entertain kids of all ages, and their parents, too. Area 51 is located in the Roswell Town Center shopping center and includes an Aurora Cineplex movie theater and two 18-hole miniature golf courses.
The Aurora Cineplex showcases Hollywood’s latest blockbusters. Take advantage of some of the theater’s summer specials, include Matinee Tuesday, where you can enjoy matinee pricing all day long. In addition, Saturday and Thursday mornings host the summer family flicks, which are just $2 a ticket. You can get a list of the family movies playing this summer online.
Either before or after your movie, try your luck at a game of miniature golf at the Fringe. The facility has two different 18-hole miniature golf courses both entertaining and challenging, with sharp turns, hills and other obstacles to overcome. The average play time is 45 minutes.
So, if you find yourself without anything to do one of these summer days, check out Roswell’s newest family fun center and let us know what you think of it.

Most people think the only way to beat the summer heat is by relaxing in the pool, but what about letting the wind cool you down as you ride your motorcycle through the city? Well, this Saturday, you can make your bike ride even more enjoyable by also contributing to a great cause. On June 25th, the Grady Health Foundation is hosting a Rock ‘n Ride that begins at Killer Creek Harley Davidson. This motorcycle ride will raise money to support traumatic injuries treated at Grady Health System, metro Atlanta’s premier Level 1 Trauma Center. The event theme is “music and motorcycles” and public safety personnel from across the state of Georgia – as well as the general public – are invited to participate in this fundraising experience.
The day’s event begins in Roswell at 11:00 a.m., when registration opens at Killer Creek Harley Davidson. Once registration is complete, enjoy the pre-ride party. At 2:00 p.m., hop on your bike and head downtown to the Hard Rock Cafe for MusicFest. Roswell’s Newest Italian Restaurant
June 18, 2011 by lauraeverett
To the delight of many Roswell residents, Franco’s Italian Tavern opened its doors last month. One of the eatery’s specialties is their wood-fire pizza. The pizza dough is handmade and has only half the amount of gluten as the typical pizza pie. Also, Franco Negri, owner of Franco’s, purchases locally grown produce that is pesticide and hormone free and utilizes free-range meats. Every bite fills your mouth with fresh produce, and the quality ingredients really make a difference in the overall taste and appeal.
In addition to pizza, the Italian Tavern serves up handmade pasta and sauce, imported meats and cheeses, as well as polenta Bolognese, traditional Italian salads and gelato. Being an Italian restaurant, you can of course expect to find an extensive wine list. Currently, it includes 58 Italian wines that range in taste from light and sweet to red and hearty, and the list is continuing to grow.
So scratch your plans for dinner tonight and take the whole family to Franco’s, where you will be supporting local businesses on more than one level. Franco’s Italian Tavern is located in the Sweet Apple Village on Etris Road, and is open daily for dinner. On Saturdays and Sundays, the restaurants is also open for lunch and soon will be open for breakfast.

Roswell Residents Get a New Addition to Utility Bills
June 11, 2011 by lauraeverett
You may have been hearing some things about the addition of a Stormwater Utility fee beginning in July. Well, unfortunately, this is no rumor and Roswell residents will see a couple of changes in their utility bills starting next month. However, most customers will see little change in their overall bill since this fee is pretty small and will be offset by a reduction in the sanitation fee.
We’ve got the breakdown of what you can expect to be paying. The City has developed a rate structure in which all residential customers will be divided into four classes/tiers based on the amount of impervious surface area on their property:
- Residences with up to 3,400 square feet of impervious surface will pay $2.57 per month
- Residences with an impervious surface area between 3,401 and 4,950 square feet will pay $3.95 per month
- Residences with an impervious surface area between 4,951 and 10,000 square feet will pay $5.92 per month
- Residences with more than 10,000 square feet of impervious surface will pay a unit rate of $3.95 for every 4,100 square feet of impervious surface area
- Commercial properties will receive a bill based on their actual impervious surface area
Why do we need this new fee? Well, the City of Roswell is facing an increasing and complex set of challenges as our stormwater drainage and control system ages and the City continues to expand and prosper. Stormwater runoff and the effects it is having on our aging infrastructure are a growing concern for the City. Maintaining and improving this system is imperative if we are to prevent flooding, guard against property damage and protect the economic development and quality of life of our citizens.

Living in the South comes with many advantages, but the insanely hot, humid days of the summer is not one of them. Basically, it makes it near impossible to spend any time outdoors unless you are near some sort of water. Finding indoor activities for the kids isn’t always easy or budget-friendly for that matter. So, leave it to the Roswell Cultural Arts Center to provide you with some options.
During June and July, the Cultural Arts Center hosts a Summer Puppet Series. Each week, they have a different performance that is sure to delight and entertain both children and their parents. The shows are Monday through Saturday at 10:00 a.m., with an extra performance at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays. Admission is only $4 for children (2 to 12) and $5 for adults. Tickets are already on sale and can be purchased online. Of course, you can purchase tickets the same day of the performance, but it is cash only.
Enhancing the puppet show experience for your children, the Cultural Arts Center sells puppet making kits for only $4. They are specially prepared for each show by Lee Bryan aka “That Puppet Guy.”

The 26th Annual Magnolia Ball, benefiting the preservation of Bulloch Hall, will take place Saturday, June 11 from 7 p.m. until midnight at the Country Club of Roswell. “A Casablanca Evening” is planned with men in white dinner jackets and women in 40’s inspired evening gowns.
Chair Bob Hagan, Presenting Sponsor Malon D. Mimms, Friends of Bulloch Board, and the Magnolia Ball Committee will present a romantic and elegant evening of cocktails, silent and live auction shopping, dinner and dancing to the incredible sounds of the “Grapevine.”
Proceeds from this affair will go toward recreating the 1840’s service yard and the construction of the buildings which formed it. The original site had two slave cabins (one of which has been reconstructed, the second is well on its way) and a carriage house. This addition will enhance the tours and the visitors experience at Bulloch Hall.
Reservations for the 2011 Magnolia Ball are $150 per person. Please call Pam Billingsley, Bulloch Hall Site Coordinator, at 770-992-1731 ext. 2 for reservations. For sponsorship opportunities, please call Sponsor Co-Chair, Ed Vaught, at 770-518-6681 or Chad Hagan at 404-394-6201.
