Take Advantage of John Wieland’s 3rd Annual 101 Home Event

Luxury Roswell real estateThe Spring season is a great time for the real estate market. With the holiday season and cold weather behind us, an influx of buyers fills the market. To help entice home shoppers to make a purchase, many home builders offer fantastic savings and incentives during the season. One such example is the 101 Home Event from John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods. The goal is to sell 101 homes, and in order to reach this number, the builder has reduced prices on a wide selection of homes. The 2011 spring season is the 3rd year for this savings event, as each year has proven to be quite a success. So far, 60 homes have been sold during the event, so don’t delay in finding a great John Wieland home if you want to take advantage of these low prices.

For those seeking a new home in Roswell, John Wieland Homes and Neighborhoods offers a few options with different price points. As for the savings event, StoneGrove, featuring luxury new homes priced from the high $600′s, has two exceptional inventory homes (one of which is pictured above) that have been reduced in price over $50,000. Both feature the Chancery floorplan with five bedrooms and over 5,000 square feet of living space. I think it is pertinent to mention that these two homes are two of the final four remaining in the community. Read more

Barrington Hall proudly hosts the annual event “Tea with Beatrix Potter” on the grounds of this historic home on April 23, from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. This springtime tradition features beloved author “Beatrix Potter,” as played by Atlanta actress, Holly Stevenson, as she brings to life her friends Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck, Tom Kitten and others, through captivating story-telling and puppet mastery.

Holly Stevenson has been an actress for 25 years and has performed one-woman shows for thousands of Atlanta schoolchildren. As for the character of Beatrix Potter, a local playwright wrote the show with Stevenson in mind. Initially, Stevenson was unfamiliar with Beatrix Potter other than the “Tale of Peter Rabbit,” but she developed a deep admiration for the English artist and storyteller.

In addition to Stevenson’s performance, tea will be served in the formal garden, along with lots of games and prizes. Attendance is limited and admission is $10 per person. For reservations, call Barrington Hall at 770-640-3855.

Roswell Remains the 8th Most Populous City in Georgia

The more things change, the more they stay the same – an extremely common cliche that can sum up the 2010 census perfectly.  Roswell’s population has significantly increased over the past 10 years, a growth rate of 11.4% to be specific. In the 2000 census, 79,334 people helped make up the city of Roswell. The 2010 census reveals that that number has jumped to 88,346, which is enough to keep Roswell securely in the number eight position on the list of Georgia’s most populous cities.

The census is a great example of why real estate needs to be analyzed on a local level as opposed to the national average. Roswell has seen a steady increase in population over the last decade, which boasts well for the real estate market as it means a steady influx of buyers. Read more

Fix-a-Leak Week Begins Monday, March 14th

March 12, 2011 by

WatersenseThe City of Roswell is a WaterSense Partner, and thus is urging you to check your plumbing in honor of Fix a Leak Week. Just by doing some simple plumbing maintenance like fixing running toilets, dripping faucets, and other household leaks, an American home can save, on average, more than 10,000 gallons of water every year. Nationwide, more than 1 trillion gallons of water leak from U.S. homes each year. Fix a Leak week is March 14, 2011 through March 20, 2011, and to help encourage everyone to take action, here are a few tips for checking leaks:

  • Take a look at your water usage during a colder month, such as January or February. If a family of four exceeds 12,000 gallons per month, there may be serious leaks.
  • Check your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter changes at all, you probably have a leak.
  • Identify toilet leaks by placing a drop of food coloring in the toilet tank. If any color shows up in the bowl after 15 minutes, you have a leak. (Be sure to flush immediately after the experiment to avoid staining the tank.)
  • Examine faucet gaskets and pipe fittings for any water on the outside of the pipe to check for surface leaks.

Please help Roswell spread awareness about water conservation. And, don’t forget, the City of Roswell Water Utility offers FREE water conservation kits and supplies to any Roswell water customer. To receive one, call 770-641-3707 or email waterefficiency@roswellgov.com.

Bulloch Hall RoswellThe Great American Cover-Up Quilt Show is one of Bulloch Hall’s most anticipated annual events, and it is right around the corner. During this week, Bulloch Hall, one of Roswell’s historic plantation homes, is adorned with hand-made quilts, and, since it also happens to be close to Spring, the daffodils and other flowers are sure to be blooming. The quilts add a different dimension to the Hall, filling up its walls with a range from traditional to modern works. The always interesting guild “challenge” quilts will also be part of the raffle and many pieces will be for sale. So, spend a day among the flowers and the quilts at the 29th Great American Cover-up Quilt Show, which begins Saturday, March 12, 2011 and concludes on Sunday, March 20, 2011.

The theme this year is “Quilts, Full Circle,” with quilts from the guild and the local community, on display throughout the house. The Bulloch Hall Quilt Guild, the host of the show, is pleased to present “Vintage Revisited,” a special exhibit from Mary Kerr where 19 artists recycle antique quilt blocks into their own new designs.
