It’s the time of the year for the annual Tea and Hat Show at Roswell’s historic Smith Plantation. The 2011 theme is “A New Twist on an Old Hat” and the event will take place on Saturday, February 12th at 2:00 p.m. This year’s show is bigger and better than ever with a new location and exciting additions.

One of the most anticipated additions is food historian Millie Coleman. For those interested in tearoom etiquette, Millie is an expert. Remember, she is the niece of the last partner of the legendary Frances Virginia Tearoom, which was here in Atlanta. Thus, she inherited a full collection of the Tea Room’s kitchen records. Then, she used these records to create her book, The South’s Legendary Frances Virginia Tea Room Cookbook. Needless to say, it is very exciting to have her as a part of the 2011 Tea and Hat Show. 5:30 pmto7:30 pm

Find it All RoswellAll Roswell businesses should take notice that the next Find It All networking and social event is scheduled for February 8, 2011. Other than these monthly Roswell Connect events, there really is not another opportunity in which you will be in the presence of so many Roswell entrepreneurs. This is your chance to learn the tricks of the trade as well as get advice from  seasoned professionals. And unlike Atlanta networking events, all attendees will be Roswell locals, meaning they deal with the same city-related problems and issues as you do. For any aspiring business man and woman, you will probably learn more in these two hours than in a whole semester of business classes.

So get to know your community by attending Roswell Connect. Food will be provided by Find It All and the Atlanta Academy, which happens to be the venue for the evening. The event starts at 5:30 p.m., perfect for an after-work function, and concludes at 7:30 p.m. The event is free to attend, but please RSVP to Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau 770-640-3253 or msaum@roswellgov.com.

Roswell New Home Community with its Own Maze!

Whether it is with incentives, floorplans, features, amenities or location, home builders are always trying to market their communities as offering something that you can’t find anywhere else. And in some cases, you really do find something incredibly unique.

Well, this is the case with Heatherton, a beautiful community in Roswell that has luxury homes and townhomes for sale. There are quite a few things about this community that you don’t see very often in new home construction – like the fact that all homes EarthCraft certified and feature rear-entry garages so the streetscape showcases the rich architectural influences of Shaker, Colonial Revival and Williamsburg. However, the most unique attribute about Heatherton is its list of amenities, which includes a formal maze of neatly trimmed hedges that ends with an obelisk and sundial. In addition the maze, residents also enjoy a community pool, two parks and sidewalks throughout the neighborhood.

Now is a great time to visit Heatherton as they currently have new manor homes and townhomes under construction. Priced from the $300′s, the manor homes feature four bedrooms with three and one-half baths. Read more

The Ice and Snow are Melting, Time to get Out of the House

January 15, 2011 by

In a situation that we rarely ever see in metro-Atlanta, we have spent the past five days snowed in and basically unable to leave our houses. “Cabin Fever” hardly describes the angst we were all feeling to get out of the house. Luckily, the roads are clear and the temperatures are rising, and it’s time to get out and enjoy our fabulous, historic town. Here are a couple of suggestions on things to do now that we are free to leave the house:

  • Put on some warm clothes and prepare to be spooked on a Roswell Ghost Tour
  • Enjoy some of Roswell’s exceptional cuisine: Pastis, Taste and Aqua Blue were all named one of Jezebel Magazine’s top 100 restaurants of 2010
  • Catch a Georgia Ensemble Theater performance of Tokens of Affection at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center (you can even get half off tickets by ordering them through HalfOffDepot.com)
  • Enjoy some laughs at Atlanta’s premier comedy club, the Punchline
  • Watch tonight’s Falcons game at one of Roswell’s exceptional sports bars – Coldbrews, Twisted Taco and Mazzy’s to name a few

Basically no matter how you like to spend your time, Roswell has a recreational outlet for you. These are just a few suggestions, but remember Roswell is also home to a myriad of parks, shops and other extraordinary restaurants. It’s great knowing that we do not have to head downtown in order to have a good time.

Last night, millions watched Auburn win the BCS national title over Oregon. It was a fantastic game. While it’s sad to see the college football season come to an end, it does mean that the Superbowl is less than one month away. For the die-hard football fans that consider Super Bowl Sunday to be their favorite holiday of the year, watching the game on an ordinary television is unacceptable. However, what options do you have if a big screen TV was not in the budget this year?

Well, that is where Studio Movie Grill comes to play. This year, you can watch Super Bowl XLV on one of the biggest screens around – a movie screen. For those that are unfamiliar with Studio Movie Grill, you will be able to feast on your favorite game day delights just as if you were watching the game at a local sports bar, including beer. If you are a little unsure of what the food options are like at movie theater, feel free to browse the menu. Admission to the game is only $6.00 for general admission and $12.00 for reserved seating; these prices also include a beverage coupon. Read more

The holiday season seems to be one of the most popular times to get engaged. I don’t know if it is the overall magical feeling that the holiday brings or the fact that you’ll be around family and friends, but there is something in the air that screams “Let’s spend the rest of our lives together.”

That being said, The Roswell Wedding and Special Occasion Council schedules the annual Roswell Wedding Showcase just following the holiday season to help all of the soon-to-be brides get a handle on the planning process. This  year’s 10th Annual Roswell Wedding Showcase will take place on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the Holiday Inn Atlanta/Roswell off of Holcomb Bridge Road. Read more
