Roswell Chili Cook-off

The Roswell Chili Cook-off will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on October 23rd at Leita Thompson Memorial Park. The Chili Cook-Off is currently accepting registrations from local cooks until October 1st. Complete the online registration form at www.roswellgov.com/chili.
There is no entry fee required and participants should comply with the following:
Chili:
Participants should supply at least 3 gallons of chili. Creativity with your recipes is encouraged. All bases (beans, meat, veggie, etc.) are valid.
Participants must submit an ingredients list. No lists or recipes will be given out unless you would like to share. This cook-off involves sampling by event attendees, please be aware that liability is based on ingredients cooked in your chili. Anyone preparing and serving harmful ingredients will be held liable. Any non-traditional or unusual ingredients must be disclosed to prevent allergic reactions (seafood, peanuts, chocolate, etc.)
Chili should be prepared and heated before 2 pm on October 23rd. Chili must be prepared and served in a sanitary manner.
General Info:
Participants must furnish their own cookware and serving utensils.
A heat source can include a number of different methods including traditional propane camp stove, Coleman fuel, or BBQ (no electricity or running water will be available in the booths.)
Sides and Supplements: (Cornbread, bread, salsa, cheese, etc.) are optional but encouraged to support your chili.
Set-up Rules and Times:
All Participants will be allowed to set up no earlier than 12:30 p.m.
Advertisement and decoration are encouraged.
At the close of the event, all equipment, advertisements, and decorations must be removed from the site, but should remain until 4 p.m. and no longer than 5:30 p.m.
Shelter, chairs, and 6’ folding tables will be supplied.
One ounce sample cups, spoons, and paper napkins will be supplied.
Prizes for both categories (professional and amateur) include:
- First Place – $100 + Large Ceramic Bowl;
- Second Place – $50 + Large Ceramic Bowl;
- Third Place – Ceramic Bowl.
If you just plan on attending the event and tasting the chili, cost is $20 and includes:
- A beautiful handmade ceramic bowl of your choice made by the Clay Collective group
- All the chili you care to taste!
- A voting ballot– to vote for your favorite chili
- $5 worth of tickets that can be used to purchase additional items such as drinks, baked goods, hayrides, pumpkin decorating, and MORE!

Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt (West Coast phenomenon and fro-yo to the stars) are opening stores in the ATL and their next store to open is Sandy Plains/ East Cobb (2960 Shallowford Road).
On Friday, the 24th from 6-10pm, they will have “Come Meet Menchie’s Night” free frozen yogurt for anyone who walks in the doors. There is no catch – It’s free fro yo, simple as that. Load up the kids, your neighbors and yourself and head out for a free sweet treat! Please let your friends know.
Menchie’s Grand Opening is Saturday the 25th from 11am to 7pm and should be a big to-do with stickers, tattoos, balloons, a jumpee and an appearance by the Menchie’s Man. Enjoy free fro yo with donation of a new toy or children’s book (new toy and book donations are being collected for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta).
Also, a portion of proceeds benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (something we can all feel good about).

August Roswell Homes Sales Update

We hear a lot of questions about the Roswell real estate market on a daily basis. So we thought we should give you an update on the market. For some good news, there were 89 Roswell homes sold in August, this is up 10% from July. There are an additional 113 currently under contract, which bodes well for the market. However, not all of those homes will close and some Roswell short sales may take awhile to close. So you’ll just have to tune in next month to get the latest update.
The average sales price was $343,000 for Roswell homes sold in August, which was down 4% from the average sales price in July. The average time on market to sell a Roswell home was 78 days for August. The most expensive house sold for $875,000 and the lowest price home sold for $53,500.

Roswell End of Summer Celebration Fireworks
The Roswell Recreation, Parks, Historic and Cultural Affairs Department will hold the 9th Annual End of Summer Celebration today at Centennial High School Baseball Field. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a fireworks display at dark.
This annual event features music, inflatables, food and fireworks. 3-Way Street Band is scheduled to perform at 6:30 p.m. and Big Biscuit Band is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Food will be on sale by Miller’s Ale House and Restaurant.
Centennial High School is a drug, alcohol and tobacco free zone.

2010 Roswell Arts Festival

The 44th Annual Roswell Arts Festival will be held on September 18th and 19th, 2010. There will be a FREE continuous shuttle running from City Hall to the Square from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Roswell, the Roswell Arts Festival is held on the Roswell Town Square. Entertainment featuring local singers, dance companies, and children’s entertainers begins daily at noon on both days of the festival. Children’s painting, sand art, and other activities are also available. Food vendors on site.
Founded in 1966, the Roswell Arts Festival Committee has worked tirelessly to bring quality artisans to Roswell for the benefit of the community and to raise money in support of the Roswell Recreation and Parks Department. The Roswell Arts Festival has raised money for a variety of projects throughout its forty year history, including funding for the Roswell Visual Arts Center, Roswell’s Riverside Park, funding for the Roswell Adult Recreation Center, and funding for the purchase of sixty three acres of land that would later become Roswell Area Park. Through monies raised by the annual festival, the Roswell Recreation Association has been able to donate more than half a million dollars towards the betterment of recreation in Roswell.

Historic Canton Street will be “alive” on Thursday, June 17 as the 2010 Alive After Five street party kicks off from 5-9 p.m in Roswell, Georgia. Live music, food, displays and shopping make this event a fun and family friendly break during the busy work week. Alive After Five occurs the third Thursday of every month from April-October. Trolley shuttles from the parking lot of City Hall are available free of charge.
Shops and restaurants offer discounts and specials, and live music plays throughout the district. A free trolley will transport participants to all event locations. A collaboration with the Historic Roswell Merchants’ Association. Here’s the list of musical performances.

Roswell’s Riverside Sounds concert series will kick off on Saturday, May 1st with this year’s theme “The Southern Shuffle,” an unexpected and eclectic mix of southern sounds.
These free monthly outdoor concerts are held at Riverside Park, 575 Riverside Road, May thru October from 7-9 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month.
